Wardlow nets 30 points as Lady 'Cats defeat West Union

It may have taken a little longer than they wanted to wait, but for the second time this season the Whiteoak Lady Wildcats worked their way to a victory, defeating the West Union Lady Dragons, 73-68.
As the Lady 'Cats have two wins this season, their other win came as they defeated Western Latham in their season opener, 45-40 at the Paint Valley Lady 'Cat Classic.
[[In-content Ad]]In between wins, WHS suffered 14 straight losses, but none of that mattered Thursday as they put together a complete game for the win.
WHS (2-14) scored 21 points in the first eight minutes of the game, taking a 21-15 lead. They added another 21 points in the second quarter for a halftime lead of 42-30.
In the third, West Union outscored the Lady 'Cats 16-14, and in the fourth, WHS held off a WU rally as they were outscored, 22-17.
Freshman Emma Wardlow led WHS with a double-double by scoring 30 points and collecting 11 rebounds. She also had eight steals and two assists. Wardlow made four 3-pointers and was 14-of-18 from the free-throw line.
Sunnie Lehr followed with 14 points, five rebounds, one assist, one steal and one blocked shot.
Senior Clarissa Johnson totaled seven points, nine rebounds, seven assists and six steals.
Emily Stratton finished with six points, two rebounds, three assists and three steals. Courtney Cummings totaled five points, six rebounds, one assist and one steal.
Amber Gorman and Morgan Campbell each scored four points, with Gorman tallying nine rebounds (six offensive). Campbell added two rebounds, one assist and one steal.
Brittany Luman finished with three points, six rebounds, one assist, one steal and a team-high five blocked shots. Savannah Johnson had two rebounds and one assist.
As a team, WHS was 29-of-45 from the free-throw line, with team totals of 62 rebounds, 17 assists, 21 steals, six blocks and 24 turnovers.
WHS will host one-win Fairfield on Monday, Jan. 21.
