Sectional Basketball Tournament Preview: Whiteoak vs. Paint Valley

(Winner to face No. 2 seeded Glenwood New Boston in the sectional finals on Saturday, Feb. 17 at 1 p.m. at Northwest High School.)


WHITEOAK LADY WILDCATS
(Southern Hills Athletic Conference)


- Overall Record: 1-21

- Conference Record: 0-13 (SHAC, Div. II)

- Last Tournament Win: Feb. 13, 2017 defeated Sciotoville East, 35-29 in sectional semifinals.

- Season Review: This season has been one of learning on the go for the Whiteoak Lady Wildcats. WHS has one win on the season, that coming on Jan. 17 against Silver Grove (Ky.) by a 48-38 score. This season also saw head coach Steve Smith return to the sidelines after eight years away from coaching. Whiteoak has lost their past eight games played this season.

Also for the Lady ’Cats, they are led in scoring by Cylee Bratton (stats for the first 20 games) with 9 points per game and Megan Botts (stats for the first 20 games) with 6.1 ppg.


PAINT VALLEY LADY BEARCATS
(Scioto Valley Conference)


- Overall Record: 7-15

- Conference Record: 5-9 (SVC)

- Last Tournament Win: Feb. 15, 2017, defeated Manchester, 78-48 in sectional semifinals.

- Season Review: Earlier this season, Paint Valley defeated the Whiteoak Lady Wildcats on Nov. 28 by a 79-19 score on Nov. 27, 2017 at PVHS. This season saw the Lady ’Cats win three of their first four games of the season. In their most recent game on Feb. 8, the Lady ’Cats lost to Huntington in a SVC game by a 56-50 score. PV’s most recent win was on Feb. 3 when they defeated Belpre by a 53-45 score.

The player to watch for PV is Lexi Woods — who has faced an injury for part of this season — and according to SVCSportsZone.com is the 13th all-time leading scorer in SVC girls basketball history and the all-time leading scorer at Paint Valley in girls basketball. Woods is averaging 21.5 ppg. this season and 10.7 rebounds per game, as listed in the SVCSportsZone.com league leaders list.
