Michael Mangus wins regional 3200m title; returning to state

Fairfield senior Michael Mangus is returning to the Division III State Track & Field championships for the second consecutive year.
On Friday night, Mangus won the 3200-meter run in the Division III Regionals in Pickerington to become a regional champion.
Mangus won with a time of 9:36.50 (defeating 14 other runners), as he's also won a district and Southern Hills Athletic Conference title this season.
Also for his senior year, Mangus placed fourth in the Division III State Cross-Country championships and was second in the indoor state championship race.
[[In-content Ad]]For his high school career, this is the sixth trip to a state tournament for Mangus, as he's already accepted a Division I scholarship to run cross-country and track & field for Northern Kentucky University.
As for his regional race, Mangus won by nearly 11 seconds over the second-place runner, senior Luke Evans (Grandview Heights), who had a time of 9:47.23 in second place.
In third was Fisher Catholic sophomore Aaron Wood with a time of 9:51.44, followed by Fredericktown sophomore Bailey Gannon at 9:52.32. Completing the Top 5 finishers was Cardington-Local sophomore Jacob Long with a time of 9:56.62.
At the district race last week at Southeastern High School, Mangus was first with a time of 9:36.42. At the SHAC Championships, Mangus's first-place time was 9:48.3 in the 3200m run.
Also in the Division III regionals, the Fairfield 4x800m relay team of Mangus, freshman Wyatt Evans, freshman Trent Swisher and junior Dustin Willey placed on the podium in eighth with a time of 8:48.36.
The Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs also has runners in the Division III Regionals as they placed 13th in the 4x200m relay with the team of senior Marc Blankenship, junior T.J. Snider, junior Alex Pinkerson and senior Colt Dunseith finishing with a final time of 1:38.16.
In the 4x100m relay the LC team of Pinkerton, sophomore Austin Chisman, Snider and Dunseith were 16th with a time of 48.58.
LC's 4x200m relay team of Chisman, Pinkerton, Blankenship and Dunseith was 15th at 3:49.07.
The discus throw saw LC sophomore Johnny Lewis finish 14th with a throw of 120-11.
Whiteoak freshman Derrick Ison placed seventh in the 400m dash with a finals time of 52.84. In the prelims, he was seventh at 53.28.
Also for WHS, freshman Taylor Tackett finished in 12th place in the girls 200m dash with a time of 28.63.
