McLaughlin, Yeager earn OPSWA All-Ohio honors

Highland County has a representative on both the Division III and IV Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association All-Ohio teams.
The Division III and IV boys basketball All-Ohio teams were announced Monday by a statewide media panel. The teams were selected by members of the OPSWA, as the teams were formerly titled with the Associated Press.
Earning the honors in Division III was Lynchburg-Clay senior Eric McLaughlin, who was selected to the third team for a second consecutive year. For Division IV, Whiteoak senior Trever Yeager earned the selection as an honorable mention.

“Eric has been a joy to coach these past four years and has been a great teammate, student and player for the Lynchburg-Clay program,” LC head coach Matt Carson told The Highland County Press. “He has crafted his game with countless hours of hard work and has been successful in so many ways in his four-year career.”
For his senior season, McLaughlin averaged a double-double with 19.7 points per game and 13.3 rebounds per game. The 6-6 forward also had 3.0 assists per game, 1.8 blocks per game and 1.3 steals per game.
McLaughlin shot 47 percent from the field, 35 percent for his 3-point shooting, 78 percent from the free-throw line and 41 percent total from the field.
This season, McLaughlin was also selected to the media and Coaches District 14 All-District teams, and he was also selected All-SHAC. Other honors from McLaughlin’s career included: 2017 SHAC All-Conference team, SE District Coaches Div. III second team, AP Division III first-team All-District, 2016 SHAC All-Conference team, 2016 Div. III SE District Coaches third team, 2016 Div. III AP All-District third team, JJ Huddle Ohio National Guard Player of the Week in 2016 and was selected to the OHSBCA Top 100 Showcase in spring 2016.
McLaughlin signed with Mount Vernon Nazarene University, an NAIA school and member of the Crossroads League, in November 2017.
“The best attribute, though, is that he is a great person. I am thankful God has allowed me to get to watch him grow these last four years,” Carson said. “Mount Vernon Nazarene is getting a great person for their program.”
For his season in being selected as Division IV All-Ohio honorable mention, Yeager averaged 12.5 ppg, 6.7 rpg and 4.1 apg, as the senior guard helped lead the Wildcats to their best season in over five seasons. For the season, Yeager shot 46 percent from the field.
“Trever has had a wonderful senior season,” Whiteoak head coach Blake Kibler said. “He was our leader night in, night out on the floor. Trever is a great player and a great student and kid.
“Trever and the other seniors have helped pave the way for future Wildcats. It was an honor to coach Trever.”
