Mangus, Shope win middle school HC Invitational races

Tuesday saw the Fairfield boys and the Hillsboro girls win their respective events at the 2013 Highland County Invitational, held at FHS.
Matthew Mangus was the boys winner, and Grace Shope (both of Fairfield) was first-place in the girls event.
For the girls race, FHS had the top three spots in the event, led by Shope, an eighth grader, with a time of 13:18, though it was Hillsboro who won the team event with a low score of 30.
[[In-content Ad]]In the boys race, Mangus, also an eighth grader, won the event with a time of 11:28. The FHS boys took the top eight positions as they scored 15 points.
As for the ladies event, with FHS taking the top three spots, Shope was followed by Teigan Thackston (14:10) and Dakota Haynes (14:24).
In the boys race, the top eight, all FMS runners, included seventh grader Austin Setty (11:47) in second place and eighth grader Noah Richmond in third at 11:51. The rest of the top eight included: Zach Bolender (12:22), Brandtson Duffie (12:36), Tucker Ayers (12:55), Andrew Davis (12:55) and Nick Price (13:02).
HMS was second in the boys race with a 59, and in third was Whiteoak at 68.
The rest of the boys top 10 were Hillsboro's Quintan Ridenbaugh in ninth at 13:14 and Andrew Gunderman (13:15) in 10th.
Fourth through sixth place in the girls race saw Hillsboro have Callan Myers in fourth place (14:31), followed by Ellie Howland (14:38) and Emily Young (14:50).
In seventh place was Lynchburg-Clay's Emily Pinkerton at 15:13, followed by the rest of the top 10 being Sam Bullock of HMS at 15:20, Jenna Baldridge of HMS (15:43) and Lindsey Woods (McClain) at 15:58.
FMS placed second in the girls races at 31 points, and McClain was third with a score of 70.
