Lions, Lady Mustangs each place 2nd in SHAC Track & Field Championships

The Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs and the Fairfield Lions placed second overall in the 2015 Southern Hills Athletic Conference Championships this week at Lynchburg-Clay High School.

For LC, the girls team won five events en route to their runner-up finish of 111.50 points, trailing only Eastern Brown, who totaled 158 points.

Following those two schools, Manchester was third (106), followed by Peebles (51.50), North Adams (43), Fairfield (42.50), Whiteoak (32), Fayetteville (29.5), Ripley (27) and West Union (19). Eastern Brown won seven events.

In the boys events, Eastern Brown won with a final score of 120, followed by Fairfield with 97.50 points.

Rounding out the rest of the boys team scoring was: Lynchburg-Clay (87), Ripley (78), Fayetteville (67), Whiteoak (63), North Adams (55.50), West Union (21), Manchester (19) and Peebles (14).

In the girls events, LC freshman Angela McLaughlin was a part of four Lady Mustang victories, including three individual events.

McLaughlin won the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.1, the 200m dash at 27.4 and the 400m dash with a time of 1:03.3. She was also on the 4x400m relay team, along with Alexa Cochran, Abby Blankenship and Morgan Fittro, with a winning time of 4:26.8.

Also in first place was junior Bailey Leininger in the discus throw with a distance of 104-04.

For the Fairfield Lady Lions, freshman Blake Adams was the winner in the shot put event with a distance of 31-09.50.

LC also collected several second-place finishes, including Cochran in the 400m dash with a time of 1:05.5, Fittro in the 1600m run at 6:07.6 and Abby Blankenship with a time of 54.4 in the 300m hurdles.

As for the boys, the Lions of FHS totaled two victories, including in the 800m run with sophomore Trent Swisher finishing with a first-place time of 2:10.7, and the 4x200m relay with the Lions winning with a time of 1:40.8. Running in that event for the Lions were Michael Mason, Nick Price, Devon Haynes and Klay Walker.

Whiteoak had first-place finishes from sophomore Derrick Ison. He finished with a first-place time in the 100m dash at 11.4 and the 200m dash at 23.3. Ison was also first in the 400m dash at 52.0.

First-place finishes for the Mustangs in the boys events included T.J. Snider in the 110m hurdles with a time of 17.8 and the 300m hurdles at 44.4.

Johnny Lewis of the Mustangs was first in the discus event with a distance of 132-00.

Second-place finishes in the boys events for Highland County teams included Wyatt Evans in the 1600m run with a time of 4:54.6, Matthew Mangus in the 3200m run at 10:19.2 and the Lynchburg-Clay 4x200m relay team of Devin Gibson, Austin Chisman, T.J. Snider and Alex Pinkerton with times of 1:42.2.

Fairfield was second in the 4x400m relay with a 3:52.4, with the team consisting of Evans, Swisher, Price and Walker.

The Lions were also second in the 4x800m relay with Evans, Swisher, Noah Richmond and Walker finishing with a time of 9:01.3.

Zac Carter was second in the high jump for the Lions with a height of 5-06.00. Carter was also second in the long jump at 18-05.50.
