Lewis, Cox named AP 1st team All-District

Two players from Highland County were named first-team All-District by the Associated Press this week, and a total of eight players received honors for the Southeast District.

Lynchburg-Clay senior Laney Lewis earned first-team honors for Division III, and Fairfield junior Heather Cox was named to the first-team for Division IV for their play this season.

In Division II, McClain sophomore Shania Massie was selected to the second team, while junior teammate Tara Karnes was voted to the third team, as was Hillsboro sophomore Kaylynn Bell. Division II honorable mention honors went to Trista Rhodes, a Hillsboro sophomore.

For Division IV, Whiteoak freshman Emma Wardlow was selected to the third team, and Fairfield sophomore Kaitlin Evans was named special mention.

The Players of the Year in each division were: Erica Dawson of Marietta (Division II), Terra Stapleton of Proctorville Fairland (Division III) and co-players in Division IV were Jenna Burdette of Reedsville Eastern and Brooke Drayer of Waterford.

Coaches of the Year were: Wayne Horsley (Athens) and Steve Clippinger (Lancaster Fairfield) in Division II, Jon Buchanan (Proctorville Fairland) and Jeran Cox (Adena) in Division III, and in Division IV was Brett Bostic of Crown City South Gallia.
