Lady 'Cats win sectional title, Sosby K's 17

SCIOTOVILLE — The Whiteoak Lady Wildcats are sectional champions. WHS, a No. 7 seed, used strikeout pitching and timely hitting to their advantage on Saturday, as they won in shutout fashion, defeating No. 2 seeded Sciotoville (Portsmouth East) 4-0 at PEHS.
Sciotoville (Portsmouth East) had just three regular season losses this season, ending the year at 19-4.
[[In-content Ad]]The Lady 'Cats scored one run in each of the first three innings, for a 3-0 lead. They added their fourth run in the seventh for the aforementioned four-run win.
WHS freshman Sosby was the winning pitcher for the Lady 'Cats, pitching a complete seven innings, allowing no runs on three hits and one walk. She finished with 17 strikeouts as the freshman faced 25 batters.
"We played well," WHS head coach Bret Malone said. "Kiley threw one of her best games with the 17 strikeouts.
"Mikayla (Burns) did a great job behind the plate. The ladies were more focused than they have been all year. They are working together very well and are having fun."
The Lady 'Cats finished with five hits, with the leader being Sosby at 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI, the lone RBI of the game by WHS. Two of the three hits by Sosby were doubles.
Mikayla Burns and Kylie Clark each had one hit for WHS. Reaching base on walks were Morgan Miller, Jayde Parr, Caitlyn Arledge and Molly Oliver who walked twice. Arledge also had a stolen base.
Besides the one run scored by Sosby, the rest of the WHS runs were scored by Miller, Parr and Clark.
Sciotoville (Portsmouth East) totaled five errors on the day.
WHS will play again on Tuesday, May 15 when they travel to Minford in the Division IV SE District tournament when they face No. 3 seeded Waterford. Waterford defeated Belpre, 2-1 on Saturday for a sectional title.
