Lady 'Cats sweep Fairfield in 3 sets

LEESBURG — The Whiteoak Lady Wildcats earned their sixth win of the season on Tuesday evening, defeating the host Fairfield Lady Lions in three sets in Southern Hills Athletic Conference play.
WHS won by scores of 25-15, 25-15 and 25-17 at Grandle Gymnasium, putting them at 6-4 overall this season.
"We have six players who play varsity, and they played well in this match," WHS head coach Don Rahe said. "The girls have great effort and are trying hard.
The starters for WHS were Alexis Jones, Emma Wardlow, Morgan Knoblauch, Kylie Douglas, Caitlyn Arledge and Sunnie Lehr.
"Fairfield is a good team, but our serving was the difference in the game," Rahe said.
Speaking of the serving for the Lady 'Cats, Arledge finished with 10 aces in the three set, including six in the second set. In 23 serves in the match, she had just one bad serve.
"Caitlyn was dominant with her serving, and she's just a great kid to have on the team," Rahe said.

Also making her mark in this match was Wardlow, as Rahe spoke highly of the junior.
"Emma also played well," he said. "She had so many digs and kills …. she had a few that were just unbelievable. She's tough and one of the best players in the district."
As for the match, the first two sets came with wins of 25-10, then in the third set, it was tied on seven occasions, including from 1-1, up to the final time at 10-10.
FHS began the match by leading 5-1 including a point by Tristen Collins. WHS then began their rally back, including a point by Wardlow, followed by an ace by Arledge that tied the game at 5-5.
The score was eventually tied at 10-10, but from there, WHS took a 14-10 advantage with the help of an ace by Douglas.
Blake Adams of FHS had consecutive aces to bring the Lady Lions closer to tying score at 17-14. WHS answered with aces by Knoblauch to make it a 20-15.
WHS eventually scored the final two points of the match for the 25-17 win.
