Lady 'Cats run-rule Ripley in 6 innings

MOWRYSTOWN — The Whiteoak Lady Wildcats played one of, if not their most, complete games of the season, and it showed in their final results as they defeated the Ripley Lady Blue Jays, 10-0 in six innings Friday.
The win by the host Lady 'Cats was also a victory in the Southern Hills Athletic Conference, as WHS earned their second win of the season.
"This was a great team win," WHS head coach Bret Malone said. "We put the ball in play better, pressured their defense, and we were more aggressive on the bases.
"This was a good way to end the week."
WHS scored runs in five of their six innings at the plate, and defensively, the Lady 'Cats committed just one error, while pitcher Kiley Sosby struck out 12 batters in the shutout win.
Sosby didn't allow a hit until the Lady Blue Jays had two in the sixth inning, both singles. The sophomore walked zero and struck out the side in the first and third innings.
For the first five innings, Sosby (who threw 85 pitches) and the Lady 'Cats' defense held RHS in check as a ball didn't leave the infield, with 10 outs via strikeout and five outs via ground outs or a fielder's choice, as the lone error committed by WHS came in the second inning.

"Kiley was on target (Friday)," Malone said. "She didn't allow a hit until the sixth, and for our defense, this was a great game as well, cutting down on our errors when the ball was hit into play."
Ripley threatened to break the shutout in the sixth with their two singles, as one runner reached third, but to no avail, as WHS recorded outs with consecutive swinging strikeouts and a line out to second baseman Caitlyn Arledge, ending the game.
As for the offense of the Lady 'Cats, it was on point Friday at WHS, as they totaled 10 hits and forced six walks to score their 10 runs.
WHS scored two runs in each of the first two innings, followed by a three-run fourth. In the fifth, they added two runs and ended the game with the run-rule as Jayde Parr scored the game-ending run.
Three Lady 'Cats gained two hits apiece with Kayla Smallwood, the lead-off hitter, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. Sosby was 2-for-2 with two walks, three runs and three RBIs. Parr finished 2-for-3 with two runs, one walk and one RBI.
Earning one hit each were Ashleigh Harless, Mikayla Burns, Hayley Nace and Makayla Wescott.
Harless also tallied an RBI, walk and run, while Burns had two RBIs and two sacrifices. Nace collected two RBIs, and Wescott had one run and one RBI.
Jenny Westfall scored one run and walked once, and Christine Hamilton also drew a walk.
On Monday, the Lady 'Cats travel to Fairfield for a makeup game against the rival Lady Lions at 5 p.m.
