Lady 'Cats ground Lady 'Jays

Playing on a baseball field with a grass infield in Hamersville, the Whiteoak Lady Wildcats defeated the Ripley Lady Blue Jays, 5-1, for a Southern Hills Athletic Conference win.

Whiteoak, the away team, scored one run in the top of the first for the 1-0 lead after one inning and made it a 3-0 score after three complete innings with a two-run third.

Each team scored one run in the fourth, and WHS added their final run in the top of the seventh for the four-run advantage and their second straight win.

The Lady 'Cats totaled eight hits and two walks to sweep the Lady Blue Jays this season, as four players combined to score the five WHS runs in Ashleigh Harless, Christine Hamilton, Kayla Smallwood and two runs by Morgan Miller.

Miller also went 2-for-2 at the plate with one walk.

Also tallying hits were Harless, Hamilton, Kiley Sosby, Jayde Parr and Caitlyn Arledge. Harless also drew a walk.

RBIs went to Hamilton and Sosby (two).

The winning pitcher was Sosby as she totaled 17 strikeouts in the victory. Sosby faced 27 batters, allowing one unearned run on four hits and one walk in seven innings.

WHS will host Highland County rival Fairfield in a SHAC game on Tuesday, April 23 at 5 p.m.
