Lady 'Cats gain 1st win of season

Scattering runs throughout their Southern Hills Athletic Conference road matchup, the Whiteoak Lady Wildcats gained their first win of the season, defeating the West Union Lady Dragons, 6-1.

The Tuesday evening SHAC victory for the Lady 'Cats (1-7) began with one run in the top of the first and what proved to be the winning run crossing the plate in the top of the third.

West Union added their lone run in the fourth, but the Lady 'Cats answered with a three-run fifth and one-run sixth.

WHS ended the game with five hits as the first four spots in the order each reached base with a hit in Kayla Smallwood, Ashleigh Harless (a double), Kiley Sosby and Mikayla Burns, and later in the order, Jayde Parr had a hit.

Harless, Sosby and Christine Hamilton each had an RBI, while Burns collected two RBIs. Hamilton and Harless each drew a walk.

Sosby earned the pitching win as she went a complete seven innings. The sophomore allowed one run (unearned) on seven hits and no walks. She ended the game with 14 strikeouts as she faced 28 batters.
