MOWRYSTOWN — The Whiteoak softball program is currently in a stage where they are gaining experience on the go, and the learning process continued Thursday evening as they lost their second Southern Hills Athletic Conference game of the season, falling to the Eastern Brown Lady Warriors, 7-1.

The loss drops WHS to 0-6 overall, as they scored their lone run in the fourth inning.

"We are still having competitions for positions on the field as there aren't many set positions," WHS head coach Bret Malone said. "We made routine plays better (Thursday) than we have the first five games, but we still need to keep working hard."

The run was scored by Kiley Sosby, as she led off the inning with a double. She crossed home plate on a two-out base hit from Morgan Miller.

WHS totaled seven hits, with Sosby leading at 2-for-4 with two doubles and the lone run. Also tallying hits were Kayla Smallwood, Ashleigh Harless, Mikayla Burns, Miller and Makayla Wescott.[[In-content Ad]]

"We put the bat on the ball better, against one of the better pitchers in the league," Malone said.

The win in the circle went to Eastern's M. Johnson, who pitched all seven innings. She struck out 11 batters.

The loss went to Sosby. The sophomore pitched seven innings, allowing seven runs (one earned) on five hits (one home run) and three walks. She finished with eight strikeouts.

WHS committed seven errors, all coming in the first five innings.

Whiteoak will play again on Friday at 5 p.m. as they travel to Piketon.
