The Hillsboro and Whiteoak boys basketball programs recently finished camps for their area youth.

Hillsboro Coach Bruce Miles held a four-day camp filled with fun and competitive learning.

Coach Miles enjoyed the fun atmosphere and is excited about the future of Hillsboro Indians basketball. The camp consisted of third through fifth grades and was designed to work on fundamentals and overall basketball knowledge. Hillsboro provided a free shirt for each camper and gave away daily and weekly prizes.

Not only did Hillsboro provide a learning atmosphere, but also working with the Hillsboro City Schools Tomahawk Food Truck, they fed every camper all week. Coach Miles stressed that eating healthy was just as important as playing basketball.

Whiteoak Head Coach Blake Kibler, although varied in the method, created a learning and challenging environment as well. Coach Kibler held a five-day camp where he focused on discipline and work ethic. The camp consisted of fourth through sixth grades with a few third graders.

Coach Kibler, with the help of basketball guru Tirrell Cumberland, helped the youth work on every aspect of basketball from offense to defense, challenging every player to practice at home and push themselves.

Coach Kibler’s final message to his group was “Whatever your dream is, you can do it. I know you can do it. Don’t let anyone tell you different. You just have to work hard at it.”

On the final day of the Whiteoak camp, University of Cincinnati’s Jarron Cumberland came to inspire the youth and sign autographs. Although, just finishing up a workout Cumberland was gracious enough to play some “knockout” with the youth and have a shoot around. Coach Kibler showed a video of some of Cumberland’s highlights from his freshman year at Cincinnati to the camp and really created an excited bunch of Wildcats.

Whiteoak’s camp gave each camper a free shirt and a basketball.

Both Coach Kibler and Coach Miles, with the help of their current players, led by example and made Highland County basketball exciting for their campers. Both coaches would like to thank their players and their campers, but most importantly the parents for allowing them to teach their kids and for supporting their programs.
