Highland County trio earn All-State honors

A trio of Highland County boys basketball players have been named Associated Press All-Ohio, as nominated by a state panel of media members.
Earning special mention honors for Division IV were Fairfield senior Quentin Williams and Whiteoak senior Doc Seip. Lynchburg-Clay senior Alec Smith was named Division III honorable mention.
The trio of players from Highland County were in the Top Four in scoring in the county this season, with Williams, who led the Fairfield Lions to a district runner-up finish, leading the county in scoring.
Williams finished with 522 points this season with 21.8 points per game. He made 179 field goals and 42 3-pointers. The senior also sank 122 free throws, finishing his career with 891 points in three seasons at the varsity level.
Also for Williams, he totaled 6.5 rebounds per game, 4.5 assists per game and 4.5 steals per game.
"Quentin didn't play varsity his freshman year, and he's had some injuries throughout the years, so he's had to sit out about seven games over the last three years," FHS head coach Everett Snyder said late this past season. "Had he been injury-free, he'd probably got to the 1,000-point plateau. Every player strives for that, and I'm sorry he didn't get it, but he's had an excellent career at Fairfield."[[In-content Ad]]
Seip scored his 1,000th point for his career late this season, as the special mention All-Ohio player totaled 18 points per game, with 8.2 rebounds per game. Seip shot around 60 percent from the field this season, as WHS won the Southern Hills Athletic Conference Division II title.
Seip and Williams were All-SHAC, AP All District and District 14 Coaches All-District this season.
"I am very proud of Doc receiving such a great individual award for such an unselfish player," Whiteoak head coach Tom Wessner said.
For LC, Smith averaged 17.7 points per game with 11.7 rebounds per game as the senior totaled 280 rebounds this season and 425 points. Smith had a scoring streak from Jan. 22 to Feb. 23 where he scored no less than 14 points in a game. His high was 32 against Peebles in the sectional finals. The double-digit streak lasted 11 straight games as LC won a sectional title for the first time in a decade this past season.
Smith was also All-SHAC and AP All-District this season.
"Alec gave us a lot of minutes this year and stepped up to make big plays this season," former LC head coach Jason McLaughlin said following the season finale.
