Fairfield, Whiteoak ranked in 1st coaches softball state poll of season

The Fairfield Lady Lions and the Whiteoak Lady Wildcats, both of the Southern Hills Athletic Conference, are ranked in the first release of the Ohio High School Softball Coaches Association state poll.

Both team are members of Division IV, where Fairfield is ranked second overall by the coaches with 70 points and one first-place vote. Whiteoak is tied for eighth in the poll with 18 points.

The two teams have split their season meetings this year, with Whiteoak defeating Fairfield, 1-0 at Fairfield High School in their first meeting of the season last week. Three days later, the Lady Lions then defeated the Lady Wildcats, 10-0 in five innings at Whiteoak High School.

Before games on Wednesday, Whiteoak has an overall record of 9-1, while Fairfield is 8-1 overall.

The No. 1 ranked team in the Division IV poll is Strasburg Franklin with one first-place vote and 84 points.
