Fairfield qualifies 5 athletes to Division III State Championships at Day 1 of Regionals

The Fairfield Lions had five athletes qualify for the 2017 OHSAA State Track and Field Championships following the first day of the Division III Regionals in Lancaster at Fairfield Union High School.
Qualifying for state were the Fairfield boys 4x800-meter relay team of Matthew Mangus, Noah Richmond, Brandtson Duffie and Trent Swisher, along with junior Blake Adams qualifying in the girls shot put event.
In the boys 4x800m relay race at regionals, the Lions finished with a time of 8:22.41, for fourth place to qualify for state. FHS improved their overall time from their previous meet at districts when the Lions set a SE District record of 8:23.96 last week to win the district championship.

At the Southern Hills Athletic Conference Championships earlier this month, the 4x800m relay team of Fairfield won the conference crown with a time of 8:35.20.
Adams placed third in the shot put event with a finals distance of 37-05.50. At regionals, Adams also had throws of 32-08, 37-04.25, 33-03.50 and 33-11. At districts last week to qualify for regionals, Adams, a junior, had a shot put distance of 37-06.00 as she was the district runner-up.
Earlier this postseason, Adams was the SHAC champion where she had a championship distance of 37-04.25.
Day 2 of the Regional Championships in Lancaster will be held on Saturday at Fairfield Union High School as Fairfield, Lynchburg-Clay and Whiteoak still have athletes left to compete at the track event.

• 300m hurdles: 13, Garrett Spargur, 45.08.
• 4x400m relay: 14, Brandtson Duffie, Bennett Hodson, Wyatt Evans, Trent Swisher, 3:46.52.
Fairfield Girls
• Shot Put: 3, Blake Adams, 37-06.00.
Lynchburg-Clay Boys
• 100m dash: 13, Zac Carter, 11.76.
• 200m dash: 9, Zac Carter, 23.79.
• Long Jump: 11, Zac Carter, 18-02.00.
Whiteoak Girls
• 100m dash: 13, Kensley Bailey, 13.48.
• 400m dash: 10, Taylor Tackett, 1:02.62.
• 200m dash: 11, Taylor Tackett, 27.45; 13, Kensley Bailey, 28.10.
