Fairfield Lady Lions earn 2nd straight district runner-up trophy

For a second consecutive season, the Fairfield Lady Lions are the Division III SE District runners-up, and they did so by having two runners in the Top 12.
Fairfield earned one of the two district runner-up placements with their third-place overall finish by totaling 129 points, with a total team time of 1:53:36.49 and an average time of 22:43.30.
Last year, the Lady Lions were one of the two district runners-up as well when they had a time of 1:53:47.81 and an average time of 22:46.69, showing this season they improved on both of last year’s district times.

Ciara Colwell placed third in the district event last year, but this year the sophomore was the district runner-up as an individual, finishing in second place with a time of 20:00.99 to earn All-District honors.
“Right now, our girls team is healthy and running at their best,” Fairfield head coach Raymond Friend said. “We had four girls earn All-District awards with their finishes.
“Ciara Colwell is running her best and has her sights set on qualifying for state as an individual. As a team, we won our second straight district runners-up title and I’m proud of all eight girls who have helped us earn this.”
Also for the Lady Lions, earning All-District honors was freshman Morgan Richmond with a time of 21:47.11 for a 12th-place finish. From there, senior Chloe Barber — who was 21st overall — earned All-District honors with a time of 22:21.47, and in 22nd place overall was junior Megan Gragg at 22:23.29.
Also racing for Fairfield were senior Sarah Young with a time of 27:03.63 and sophomore Sarah Wuellner at 27:25.27. Sophomore Laynee Duffie finished with a time of 31:11.52.
Winning the Division III race was Peebles junior Jenny Seas with a time of 18:54.78. Zane Trace won the team event with the top time of 1:48:17.07, scoring a total of 59 points.
Also for Highland County, the Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs finished in 15th place with 384 points. Their total team time was 2:12:58.83, and they had an average time of 26:43.94.
Running for LC were freshman Lilie Dearwater (25:16.88), senior Emily Pinkerton (25:32.54), senior Angela McLaughlin (25:47.20), junior Madelyn Quigley (26:23.35), freshman Jessy Mullenix (29:58.86) and Samantha Kirby (32:22.30).
The Whiteoak Lady Wildcats placed 23rd overall with 497 points. They had a team time of 2:21:31.68 and had an average time of 28:18.34.
Times for the Lady ’Cats included: freshman Kayla Jones (25:26.38), freshman Ariel Farahay (27:33.13), junior Katie Ames (27:43.47), freshman Morgan Evans (28:48.96) and freshman Caroline Goolsby (31:59.74).
In the Division II race, the Hillsboro Lady Indians didn’t have enough runners on their team to have a team score.
Leading Hillsboro was junior Mollie McCreary with a 36th-place finish at 21:48.54. Also for HHS, times included senior Ellie Howland (26:40.08), senior Emily Young (26:51.45) and sophomore Alora Brown (28:31.67).
McClain didn’t compete in the Division II girls event.
