Fairfield duo races back to State Cross-Country Championships

Michael Mangus and Blake Hildebrant are headed back to State.
The Fairfield boys' team raced at the Division III Regional Cross-Country Championships at Pickerington North High School Saturday as the junior duo, again, paced their times to return to the State Cross-Country Championships.
FHS had seven total runners competing against 112 other runners and 15 other teams as they finished in eighth place with 185 points.
Just like one year ago the day belonged to Mangus and Hildebrant, as they cracked the top 16 to qualify as individuals for the state race.
Mangus was fifth with a time of 16:52 and Hildebrant was 12th with a time of 17:09. Last week Mangus was second in the districts.
Mangus and Hildebrant will compete at the '12 Division III State Championships held at National Trail Raceway in Hebron on Saturday, Nov. 5 at 11 a.m.
The next Fairfield runner to cross the finish line was Dustin Willey placing 59th with a time of 18:32.
Senior John Cain finished the last race of his high school career at 63rd with a time of 18:40. Matthew Leach came in fifth for the Lions in 74th place with a time of 19:02.
Wyatt Crothers, who was nursing a hip injury, was right behind Leach and finished 75th with a time of 19:04. Freshman Zach Schmitz was 81st with a time of 19:10.
Winning the regional race was Garaway with a team time of 1:25:25.76 (53 points).
[[In-content Ad]]Also in the race the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs, who ran to a team finish of 13th with a team time of 1:35:46.94 at 323 points.
Leading LC was junior Quinn Stoltz at 18:33 in 60th place. LC junior Gage Waits followed in 67th at 18:44. Senior Aaron Collins was 82nd (19:12) and junior Noah Stoltz was 84th at 19:18.
LC junior Ryan Inman finished with a time of 19:57, while Christian Inman (a freshman) totaled a time of 19:59. Junior Marc Blankenship had a time of 20:56.

In the Division II Regional Championships in Pickerington, Hillsboro sophomore DeAndre Steward led the Indians with a time of 17:40 for a 33rd place finish as 131 runners raced in the event.
As a team HHS finished in 12th with a total average time of 1:31:01.49 (260 points). Winning the event was Granville with 44 points.
Hillsboro's Joe Beery, a senior, finished 41st in his final race with a time of 17:49. Senior Nathan Boone followed with a time of 18:10 in 65th and HHS freshman Zach Middleton was 68th at 18:13. Gabriel Tamborski, a sophomore, totaled a time of 19:06. Guy Bailey (a senior) ended with a time of 19:36. Paul Burton, a junior, finished with a time of 20:03.

In the Division III Regional Championship girls race in Pickerington, the Whiteoak Lady Wildcats finished in 15th place overall as a team with 403 points and a team time of 2:06:18.86.
For WHS, they were led by senior LeAnna Lomske in 98th place with time of 24:00. Senior Jennah Lomske was 100th at 24:10.
Senior Clarissa Johnson totaled a time of 24:45 and sophomore Courtney Cummings finished with a time of 25:44. Freshman Regan Bohrer raced to a time of 27:38.
Also running for WHS was senior Hope Hicks (29:24), sophomore Olivia Lomske (31:00).
Winning the team event was Mount Gilead with 92 points and a team time of 1:43:48.27.
