Cox, Massie selected AP All-District first-team

Nineteen Highland County basketball players were voted onto the Associated Press SE All-District team this week, with McClain junior Shania Massie and Fairfield senior Heather Cox named to the Division III and IV girls first teams, respectively, as selected by media members from across the Southeast District.

Massie and Cox were named second team members by the District 14 coaches for Division III and Division IV in late February.

For Massie, she scored 17.4 points per game, while also tallying three assists per game, six rebounds per game and four steals per game. She scored 34, 33, 32 and 30 points in a game this season, including 30 in the district semifinal game.

Cox averaged a double-double this season with 19.1 points per game and 14.8 rebounds per game. She also had 1.8 steals per game, with a 44.5 field goal percentage and 62.3 percentage from free-throw line. 

[[In-content Ad]]For the Division II boys team, Ryan Faulconer of McClain was selected to the Division II third team, while special mention players included Zach Young of Hillsboro.

Senior Ryan Inman of Lynchburg-Clay made the Div. III second team, while sophomore Devin Pierson made the third team and senior Gage Waits was special mention.

Senior Gage Montgomery of Fairfield made the Division IV second team, and teammate Joey Wilson, a senior, was named to the third team.

Division IV also saw Whiteoak senior Tyler Williams named special mention.

Hillsboro junior Kaylynn Bell was named to the Division II third team, while sophomore Madison Snyder was special mention.

McClain seniors Tara Karnes (second team) and Katy Unger (special mention) were also named to the Division III list.

Also for Division III, the Lynchburg-Clay girls team had three players named to the list in freshman Hannah Binkley, who made the third team, and senior Sarah Rosselott and sophomore Ali Little, who were special mention.

Division IV special mention players included junior Kaitlin Evans of Fairfield and Whiteoak sophomore Emma Wardlow.

Boys players of the year were: Division II, Evan French of Vincent Warren; Division III, Hayden Dunn of Lucasville Valley and Beau Justice of Peebles (Division IV).

Girls players of the year were Dominique Doseck of Athens (Division II); Terra Stapleton of Proctorville Fairland (Division III); and Jenna Burdette of Reedsville Eastern (Division IV).

Girls coaches of the year were Matt Walburn, Jackson (Division II); Wayne Horsley, Athens (Division II); Doug Hale, Oak Hill (Division III); and John Burdette of Reedsville Eastern (Division IV).

Boys coaches of the year were Doug Stiverson of Circleville Logan Elm (Division II), Scott Rolfe of Lucasville Valley (Division III)and Josh Arey of Peebles (Division IV).
