Carraher, Wildcats dominate Peebles

PEEBLES — It was a commanding outing from start-to-finish by the Whiteoak Wildcats, Thursday, as they defeated host Peebles, 12-0 for a Southern Hills League game at PHS.
The effort at the plate and on the mound for WHS (2-3) included junior Gage Carraher pitching a one-hitter, while striking out 10 batters in the five-inning game. Carraher (1-0) allowed zero runs and walked just one.
"Gage was dominating on the mound (Thursday)," WHS head coach Chris Veidt said. "His hard work in the offseason is starting to show the more we get him on the mound and stretch him out. He was as good as I've seen him, and he is not even close to as good as he is going to be."
The loss sends PHS to 1-3 overall.
At the plate, WHS (2-3) totaled seven hits, including Zach Docter and Jesse Bradds each going 2-for-4. Docter added three RBIs and two runs, and Bradds collected two RBIs.
"Zach (Docter) and Jesse (Bradds) swung the bats well today," Veidt said.
Carraher tallied one hit with two runs, and Michael Smith and Tyler Williams each added one hit. Smith also scored four runs.
"Michael (Smith) has been doing the job all year as our leadoff man, setting the table. He was on base all four times today, and the biggest difference in us from a team standpoint was our bats," Veidt said. "We put the ball in play with authority.
"I knew it was just a matter of time until we adjusted to live pitching, and Thursday we showed definitive signs of that. We also ran the bases very aggressively, which is something we always emphasize."
WHS will play again on Saturday as they host Northwest in a non-league game.
