MOWRYSTOWN — The Whiteoak Wildcats were competitive with the visiting Adena Warriors for most of the first half, but once the Warriors got everything rolling, WHS was unable to keep AHS from gaining the win.

For the Wildcats (0-6), they ended up going from trailing by two points with 3:29 left in the second quarter to dropping the non-conference game to the Warriors, 64-35.

After the first quarter, WHS trailed by an 18-9 score, as the Wildcats never led in the game but tied the score at 2-2 after the first 20 seconds of the game.

After Chase Carraher scored the first two points for WHS, the Warriors answered with an 8-0 run for a 10-2 WHS deficit with 4:40 left in the first. Carraher finished with seven points.

Carraher and Brandon Ashbaugh broke up the run with four straight points for a 10-6 score. Ashbaugh led the Wildcats with 15 points.

Later in the first, WHS trailed by five points at 14-9 following a 3-pointer by Dillon Neal with 1:17 left in the first, but WHS eventually trailed by an 18-9 score after the first eight minutes.

To start the second quarter, Ashbaugh opened the quarter with two points off an inbound pass from Carraher for an 18-11 score. After two points by the Warriors, WHS came back with a put-back basket by Kyle Marler (who finished with seven points) and a 3-pointer by Carraher to bring WHS back to within three at 20-17.

The Warriors came back with two points, but it was Ashbaugh with another big shot, a 3-pointer, with 3:29 left to cut the Warriors' lead to two points at 22-20.

But that would be the end of any WHS rally, with the visiting Warriors outscoring WHS, 10-1 to end the second for a WHS halftime deficit of 32-21.

In the second half, it didn't get much better for the young Wildcat squad who were outscored, 32-14 by the Warriors.

Adena was led in scoring by Hunter Miller with 17 points and Jon Thomas with 15 points.
