18 Highland County basketball players named AP All-District

Eighteen high school basketball players from Highland County were selected to the 2014-15 Associated Press All-District teams from the Southeast District by a panel of media representatives.

There was one player named as first-team All-District from Highland County in McClain senior Shania Massie, who was given the honor for the second consecutive season in Division III.

Massie, a 5-8 senior guard, made the team with a 17.8 points per game average at the time of the vote.

Also for the girls All-District voting by the AP, in Division II on the second team was Hillsboro senior Kaylynn Bell with a 12.3 ppg average this season. Another player from Hillsboro on the Division II third team was junior Madison Snyder with 11.9 ppg.

In Division III, besides Massie, Lynchburg-Clay junior Ali Little was voted to the second team with a 13.1 ppg average, as was McClain sophomore Taylor Polley, who averaged 10.7 ppg at the time of the vote.

Earning a spot on the third team in Division III was LC sophomore Hannah Binkley at 14.2 ppg, and earning a special mention honor was LC sophomore McKayla Binkley.

For the Division IV girls, Fairfield senior Kaitlin Evans was named to the second team with 15.4 ppg, and Whiteoak junior Emma Wardlow was voted third-team All-District at 14.5 ppg.

FHS freshman Grace Shope was voted onto the team as a special mention.

For the boys, in Division II, McClain junior Randall Mischal was voted to second-team honors with 14 ppg, while Hillsboro senior Zach Young was selected to the Division II third team, also with 14 ppg.

Named Division II special mention were Hillsboro senior Alex Van Zant and McClain senior Ryan Faulconer.

In Division III boys, LC junior Zach Blankenship was voted onto the third team with 9.3 ppg.

Fairfield's Ethan Putnam was named to the third team in Division IV with 13 ppg, and earning special mention honors were Wyatt Evans of FHS and Whiteoak's Brandon Ashbaugh.
