The state Senate unanimously passed Senate Resolution 121 supporting the continued buildout of natural gas infrastructure and recognizing the strategic value of U.S. LNG to help sustain good American jobs and safeguard our national security.

Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, President Biden pledged to provide Europe with additional U.S. LNG volumes to help end European dependence on Russian energy. Last month, however, the Biden administration reversed course and announced a pause on new and pending LNG export permits, drawing widespread criticism.

America’s Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) is meant to serve as a buffer to protect American families and businesses during a crisis, including natural disasters and geopolitical events. The Biden administration’s decision to draw significant reserves from the SPR leaves Americans vulnerable to future instability. 

The administration needs to stop sending mixed messages about energy production. One week they are asking U.S. companies for more supply and the next they are raising rates and fees to produce oil and natural gas. The administration should incentivize – not discourage – new energy production.
