Ohio Governor Mike DeWine issued the following statement Wednesday regarding the Ohio State Teachers Retirement System (STRS):

Bill Neville, executive director of the State Teachers Retirement System of Ohio, has been placed on leave while special counsel hired by the Ohio Attorney General’s office investigates allegations made against him by system employees. The complaints, first reported by NBC4, appear to be separate from other controversies over the fund’s performance and investment strategies.

Ohio’s retired teachers might have gotten only one three percent cost-of-living increase since 2017, but the staff that’s managing their pension funds is requesting a 31-percent increase in its already big annual bonuses.

The Ohio State Teachers Retirement System on Thursday said that while it might have lost $27.2 million when Silicon Valley Bank failed earlier this month, it’s made more than $30 million since it started investing in the bank 24 years ago.
