On Tuesday, the Biden-Harris Administration announced that the U.S. Department of Commerce awarded Intel Corporation up to $7.865 billion in direct funding under the CHIPS Incentives Program’s Funding Opportunity for Commercial Fabrication Facilities.

Intel Corp. (INTC) and Amazon Web Services. Inc. (AWS), an Amazon.com company (NASDAQ: AMZN), Monday announced a co-investment in custom chip designs under a multi-year, multi-billion-dollar framework covering product and wafers from Intel.

Ohio’s community colleges, technical centers, local career centers and school districts will offer new programs and career pathways for students who want to work at Intel.

Ohio U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown is co-sponsoring a measure aimed at streamlining projects like the Licking County Intel facility funded by the CHIPs Act. The proposal would allow those projects to avoid a federal environmental review if they’ve already undergone a similar state or local process.

First lady Jill Biden visited Columbus Wednesday, touting workforce efforts for the Intel fabrication facility going up in Licking County. Columbus will serve as one of five regional workforce hubs meant to train employees for in-demand jobs. The Biden administration has also tapped Phoenix, Baltimore, Pittsburgh and Augusta as part of the effort.

The Ohio Department of Development recently announced the $600 million onshoring grant agreement with Intel Corporation has been finalized. These funds will help offset costs associated with the construction of its state-of-the-art semiconductor manufacturing campus in Licking County.
