The Southern State Community College Foundation and the Highland County Democratic Party have announced their first recipient of the Highland County Democratic Club Scholarship for the 2025-26 academic year.
A Highland County resident and 2005 high school graduate, the recipient is pursuing an Aviation: Powerplant Certificate.
The $500 scholarship is awarded to financially support a deserving individual who proves (through their essay response) their understanding of how government is responsive to citizens, including an example of how a governmental organization (local, state or federal) has been responsive to them, a member of their family, or someone they know.
“The Highland County Democratic Party is involved in many activities that support local citizens," Highland County Democratic Party Chairperson Dinah Phillips said.
"Nineteen local people applied for our Democratic Party scholarship at SSCC. We are very proud that our scholarship will help one local resident enroll in the SSCC aviation program. Our Party's goals include being involved in all aspects of our community as well as electing qualified local, state and national candidates. This is just one of the many ways we support our community.”
“We are proud to partner with the Highland County Democratic Party and are grateful that a well-deserving student will be able to further his education and move toward his goals with this assistance,” said SSCC President Dr. Nicole Roades.
