Zimmerman, Bluffton reach NCAA Tourney

     Former Fairfield High School standout and current Bluffton University sophomore volleyball player Courtney Zimmerman is apart of the current Bluffton team that has reached the Division III NCAA Regional Tournament with wins this past weekend.

     Bluffton won the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament, at Bluffton University, with wins over Defiance College and the College of Mt. St. Joseph.

     The Beavers were seeded No. 1 in the conference tournament as they improved their overall mark to 25-7 with their two tournament wins. They finished 8-0 in the HCAC in the regular season.

     In their first tournament game, against No. 4 seeded Defiance, Bluffton won 3-1 by scores of 25-15, 25-17, (23-25) and 25-13.

     Zimmerman, who wears No. 14, finished with 11 kills, two digs, two blocks and one ace. She totaled 13 points in the four-set match.

     In the conference final, against No. 2 seeded Mt. St. Joseph, Zimmerman ended the game with seven kills, four blocks, two digs, one assist and one ace. The sophomore finished with 11 points.

     Bluffton won by scores of (22-25), (13-25), 26-24, 25-18 and 15-12.

     The Beavers now will face Ohio Northern University (27-3) at Hope College in the Division III NCAA Regional Tournament at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 12. The regional playoff will take place Thursday through Saturday.

     This will be the first time Bluffton volleyball has played in the NCAA tournament. They are one of 62 teams selected for the tournament.
