Wilmington College mourns loss of former Senior Director of Athletics Bill Wilson
The Wilmington College community mourns the passing of former Senior Director of Athletics Bill Wilson.
Wilson passed away Sunday evening after a protracted illness.
“I had the tremendous pleasure of knowing Bill ‘Coach Wilson’ for almost 20 years,” said Quakers Associate Athletic Director/Director of Compliance Briana Clark. “I will forever be grateful for the impact he has had on my life and the many opportunities he gave to me as a player, coach, and professional. His legacy will extend beyond the court and through the countless lives of the players, coaches and administrators that worked closely with him.
“He wasn’t shy of a good lesson learned, and his infamous story time sessions will forever be missed. In his passing I would like to give my love to his family and friends that he loved and cherished so dearly. ‘A good coach is hard to find but never forgotten.’”
Wilson served as the Quakers Senior Director of Athletics for over two years from the spring of 2022 until the summer of 2024. He improved several aspects of the athletics department during his time at Wilmington. He established several new coaching positions and oversaw numerous facilities upgrades while also serving as the head of the Ohio Athletic Conference’s (OAC) athletic director’s committee during the 2023-24 academic year.
“I am truly grateful for Bill's sense of humor and unwavering grit, which he consistently demonstrated while working here, especially in the face of the health challenges he encountered,” said Wilmington College Vice President, Chief Student Affairs Officer and Dean of Students Sigrid Solomon.
