DODSONVILLE — The sectional championship is back at Lynchburg-Clay with the Mustangs dominating the Valley Indians, 6-0 Wednesday at LCHS.
Not only did the Mustangs gain the sectional final win, but they also won head coach Dennis West his 300th career match as coach of both the boys and girls teams.
Following the game, players from both the boys and girls teams surrounded and celebrated with West, including spraying silly string all over the head coach.
"It means a lot to have 300 wins," West said. "To get 300 wins, it means you have coached quality kids in the program, and without quality kids, you don't win games.
"It also says a lot about the youth program … that's where they get started, and when you have success, the program feeds itself, and that's what we have right now."
In the six-goal win by the Mustangs, they scored three goals in each half, outshooting their opponent from Valley, 27-6 with Valley gaining just three shots in each half.
"This was our best outing of the year," West said. "We were just aggressive to the ball, and we moved the ball very well. The team just keeps achieving their goals. They wanted to do well in the league and won the gold ball, and they've won a sectional title."
Josh Bauer was first to score for the Mustangs as the senior scored on a free kick with 34:09 left in the first half with the ball flying through the hands of the keeper.

In the second half, Scott converted a hat-trick for the game, scoring two goals to start the second half, coming at 34:19 and 30:31 with assists from Chaz Lanier and Alex Pinkerton for a 5-0 lead.
The final goal of the match was scored with 19:44 on the clock when Jeremiah Hacker scored a goal, with the assist credited to Brandon Storer, for the six-goal lead.
LC keeper Devin Pierson totaled six saves in the shutout victory.
"The team just keeps playing good soccer," West said.
The Mustangs move to 13-2-2 overall as they will now play in the district semifinals, Saturday when they face South Webster at Jackson High School at 10 a.m. SWHS defeated Portsmouth Clay, 4-1 on Wednesday.
