The Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) announced their Athletes of the Week Monday afternoon. For the second time in his Outdoor Track & Field career and third time in his Quakers Track & Field career, Wilmington College senior Simon Heys was named OAC Men's Track Athlete of the Week.
After being named the OAC Distance Runner of the Year during indoor season, Heys began the outdoor season in a strong way.
Heys (Wilmington, Ohio/Wilmington HS) lowered his own program record in the 5,000-meter run Thursday night at the Wash U Distance Carnival. He finished in a time of 14:06.07 to finish fourth in the race and was the top Division III runner.
Heys just edged out a pair of runners from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. This time was good enough to place him third in the 5000 in Division III behind a pair of runners from the University of Lynchburg.
Wilmington is back on the track Saturday in Berea, Ky. at the Landon Bond Classic, hosted by Berea College. The meet is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
