The Union Sportsmen's Alliance (USA) will host Take Kids Fishing Day July 27 in Dayton to educate and inspire the next generation of anglers.

The event, which is open to the public, will provide an opportunity for children from various communities and backgrounds to learn about the importance of fishing and conservation. The event is scheduled for Saturday, July 27 from 9:30-noon at Lakeside Lake, 3500 Lakeside Dr., Dayton 45417.

In addition to introducing youths to the joys of fishing, participants can also enjoy the many improvements local union members and other volunteers made to Lakeside Lake.

Union volunteers will provide kids and their parents with instruction and assistance. The first 150 kids ages 2 to 15 will receive a free fishing rod and reel.

Organized by the Union Sportsmen's Alliance, this event is part of a series of free, community-based youth outreach activities organized under the USA's Work Boots on the Ground conservation program.

Fishing is a wholesome outdoor sport that participants can enjoy throughout their lifetimes. Plus, with more than 40 million anglers generating $35 billion in retail sales and $600 million for fisheries conservation and water access improvements through special excise taxes each year, it’s critical to continue recruiting new anglers.

Research has also proven that outdoor-related activities such as fishing create participatory pathways for children to experience nature and help kindle a lifelong interest in environmental conservation.

Union Sportsmen’s Alliance: The USA is a union-dedicated, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose members hunt, fish, shoot and volunteer their skills for conservation. WBG works closely with federal, state and local agencies and other conservation groups to provide manpower needed to complete critical projects that may otherwise go undone.
