GREENFIELD – One final shot by McClain senior Zach Uhl was enough to bring Tiger Nation on their feet Friday night at McClain High School. Uhl released the shot with 7.2 seconds remaining, right in front of his own bench, to give the Tigers a 65-62 South Central Ohio League win over the London Red Raiders.
Though the Red Raiders missed their last-chance opportunity with a half-court shot as time expired, Uhl's basket was just enough to break a tied game, giving MHS their second SCOL win of the season.
The Tigers now stand at 6-10 overall, winning their third straight game. This is the Tigers' second three-game winning streak of the season. In the SCOL, MHS is 2-8.
Uhl finished with 14 points, and his 3-pointer was the only trey by MHS in the game.
Zach Matracia led McClain in scoring with 17 points, and Jared Loftis scored 14. The fourth Tiger player to score in double figures was Aaron Pryor with 13 points.
Also scoring for MHS was Scott Balzer with three points. Tanner Vanzant and Thomas Schrader each scored two points.
The Tigers were 18-of-29 from the free-throw line for 62 percent. The Red Raiders were 10-of-15 for 67 percent from the foul line.
Leading LHS was Downing with a game-high 18 points. Follrod scored 12, while Johnson and Rockhold each added 10 points. Follrod and Johnson each made a 3-pointer.
MHS led in rebounding at 29-26, with Pryor grabbing nine and Uhl with eight. The Tigers committed 16 turnovers and LHS had 12.
The game was tied a total of 12 times.
