CHILLICOTHE — A shutout win one day after a shootout victory was earned by Hillsboro Post 129 Friday afternoon at Ross County Park. Tucker Hughes allowed just three hits and no runs on the hill for a 2-0 Post 129 win against Findlay Post 3 in the Southwest Wood Bat Classic.
Hughes pitched a complete seven inning game for Hillsboro, who was the away team, against Findlay Post 3. Hughes faced 29 batters and walked three. The Miami Trace product struck out five batters.
The wooden bats of Hillsboro (11-9) produced runs in the third and sixth innings.
Cody Shaver began the one-run third inning with a base hit and took second after Corey Walker was hit by a pitch.
Matt Kibler advanced both runners with a sacrifice bunt with no outs and Logan Wise knocked in Shaver with a ground out.
In the sixth, Airic Steagall forced a one-out walk and scored off an error by the Post 3 second baseman, allowing Shaver to reach first base safely. Also in the sixth, Zach Uhl advanced Steagall in the bases with a single. Brett Carrington moved Steagall to third when he reached on an error by the Post 3 first baseman.
Hillsboro finished the game with six hits as Uhl went 2-for-3. Brett Carrington, Shaver, Wise and Steagall all had one hit. Matt Kibler had one steal and Walker, as well as Steagall, forced a walk.
Post 3 gained its hits in the second, fourth and seventh innings all by No. 7 hitter Paul.
Each team committed two errors.
