Tigers wrestle at Miami Trace

By
The Highland County Press -
On Wednesday, Jan. 5, the McClain varsity wrestling team got their first taste of South Central Ohio League dual meet action. In the process, they found out why the Miami Trace Panthers are sitting atop the league in the standings.

McClain entered the match with a 7-5 dual meet record, with their opponents for the night being the London Red Raiders and the Panthers.

McClain took the mats first against London.

Forfeits for the Tigers were too much to overtake, and London took advantage of the 30 points given to them in forfeits, defeating the Tigers, 45-29.

The second match pitted the Panthers and the Red Raiders. Miami Trace handily beat London, which didn't bode well for the Tigers, as the last match of the evening would be McClain vs. MT.

Miami Trace not only took advantage of the forfeits, but showed their talent, as they won all but two of the 14 weight classes. The final score was 72-6.

After the two losses, the squad from Greenfield is now at .500 with a 7-7 record.

Individually, on the night, one Tiger went 2-0, freshman Richie Rayburn at 152.

The following Tigers won a match: Cody Black (135), Steven Barber (145), Joe Barnhart (171), John Caskey (215), and Brandon Davis (285)

In addition to the varsity wrestling teams competing on Jan. 5, there was one JV match contested, and this was in the 189-pound division between McClain and Miami Trace. Jake Branham quickly dispatched of his Panther opponent with a quick throw and first-period pin.[[In-content Ad]]
