On Saturday, Feb. 5, the McClain wrestling team competed in the ten team Quali-Tee Washington Court House Duals.
Having only half of a team, filling 7-of-14 weight classes, the Tigers needed to wrestle well, and hope for some double forfeits, in order to win some dual meets.
In the first round, MHS defeated Dayton Stivers by winning all of their matchups. The final score was 42-24. In the second round, McClain fell to Dayton Chaminade Julienne 60-24. Round three ended in a loss for MHS against Paint Valley, 41-24.
Their opponent in round four was Springfield Northeastern. Northeastern won 60-24.
In the final round, MHS would get back on the winning side by winning the last five matches, to come out on top of Jackson, 28-24.
The Tigers extended their school record mark, set this year, by winning their 12th dual meet on the year.
McClain wrestlers were 26-7 on the day. Their forfeits were their downfall in the final match scores.
Two wrestlers lead the way for MHS. Gary Ryan (189) and John Caskey (215) both went 5-0. Ryan is now 25-7 on the year. Joe Barnhart (171) and Brandon Davis (285) both went 4-1. Barnhart is now 20-11 and Davis is now 23-16.
Joe Unger (160) went 3-0. Unger is now 26-10. Steven Barber (152) went 3-2, and Cody Black (135) won two matches.
The Tigers will return to Washington High School on Tuesday, Feb. 8 for a league tri-match. Joining MHS and Washington will be the Hillsboro Indians. The junior high and jv squads will also be competing this night.[[In-content Ad]]
