CHILLICOTHE — The tide finally turned for the McClain boys basketball team, as they snapped a five-game losing streak by defeating the Unioto Shermans, 50-45 Saturday night at UHS.
On the night where the UHS athletic program hosted a pre-game program for all military veterans, the Tigers were the ones who led after the first frame by an 11-8 score in the non-league matchup, as they won the game where the deficit was five or fewer points. In their recent losing streak, all five games were also lost by five or fewer points.
From there, each team scored seven points in the second (MHS led 18-15 at halftime), and in the third, UHS outscored the Tigers, 16-13 with MHS and UHS all tied up at 31 headed into the fourth frame.
In the last eight minutes, the Tigers (5-8) outscored the Shermans, 19-14 to secure their first win since Dec. 28.

MHS was led in scoring by Ryan Faulconer with 12 points, followed by John Turner with 11. Thomas Schrader added nine, and Brent Shannon and Mikel Pritchard each added six points.
Also scoring for the Tigers were Wyatt Jones with two points, Evan Mustard with three and Philip Thompson with one.
The Tigers made eight 3-pointers in the game, with Shannon, Schrader and Pritchard each swishing two treys. Turner and Mustard each sank one.
Leading the Shermans (7-5) in scoring was Erique Hosley with 10 points, followed by Brian Arledge scoring nine; and Chase Detillion and Kyle Strange each with eight.
MHS was 12-of-19 from the free-throw line, while UHS was 9-of-23. MHS committed 23 fouls, and the Shermans had 19.
The Tigers travel to Clinton-Massie on Tuesday as they face the SCOL-undefeated Falcons, who are 3-0 in league play. The Tigers are 1-5 in the league as they head into the makeup game.
