Tigers win 2nd straight; gain SCOL victory over Panthers

GREENFIELD — Lately the McClain Tigers have started to turn their season around. In their past five games they have been victors in three, and that included Tuesday night. Against the second-place Miami Trace Panthers in the South Central Ohio League, the Tigers won their second game in four days, defeating MT, 57-39 at MHS.
Four of the Tigers' five wins have come on their home court, as MHS was led by Brent Shannon. Shannon, who was injured on Saturday night in the Tigers' win over Unioto, came back with a vengeance on Tuesday by leading all scorers with 14 points. Of Shannon's 14 points, six came via two 3-pointers.
For the game, MHS connected eight times from beyond the arc, with Shannon and Bryce Duff each making two. Also adding to the 3-point totals of the Tigers (5-8) with one trey each were Trey Lytle, Thomas Schrader, John Turner and Evan Mustard.
Ryan Faulconer followed Shannon in scoring with 13 points, followed by Lytle with 11 and Schrader with seven points.
Duff finished the game with six points, and Turner and Mustard each had three points.
MHS led 12-9 after the first quarter, and after each team scored five points in the second frame, the Tigers built a lead of 17-14. In the third, MHS outscored the Panthers 14-10, and in the final eight minutes MHS scored 26 points, while their defense held MT to 15.
For Miami Trace, they were led in scoring by Marcel Pettiford with 10 points. Cedric Pettiford and Brandlyn Decker each had eight points.
The Tigers were 13-of-20 (65 percent) from the free-throw line, and MT was 4-of-9 as MHS committed a total of 14 fouls and MT committed 17 fouls.

The win moves MHS to 5-8 overall, and 2-4 in the SCOL. MT falls to 5-6 overall and 4-3 in the SCOL.
MHS will host the Hillsboro Indians on Friday, Jan. 20 in a SCOL and Highland County matchup. MT will face the Washington Blue Lions on Friday at MTHS.
