Tigers torch Green Devils 3-1 at VA Memorial

CHILLICOTHE – The wins keep on coming for the McClain Tiger boys soccer team this season as they traveled to VA Memorial Stadium and defeated non-league opponent North Adams 3-1 Monday night.

            The win lifts the Tigers to 6-1-1, as they are tied atop the South Central Ohio League standings with the Madison-Plains Golden Eagles, who the Tigers face today at VA Memorial Stadium at 5:30 p.m. for first-place in the league.

            As for Monday the Tigers scored all three goals in the second half to take the win over the Green Devils of the Southern Hills League.

            McClain’s Daniel White scored two goals in the second half, and teammate Ben Chamblin made the score 3-1 with a goal.

            MHS keeper Ryan Case tallied seven saves at goal.

            “We played a sloppy first half. I think the rain got to us, but we got things together in the second half and played like I knew we could play,” MHS coach Shawn Jackson said.

            The Tigers have seven SCOL games remaining, including the showdown with the Golden Eagles today in Chillicothe.

            Earlier this year on Aug. 28 the Golden Eagles defeated MHS 3-2.

            Since then the Tigers have won SCOL games against Hillsboro (2-0), Washington (3-2), Clinton-Massie (4-3) and Miami Trace (5-2).

            “I am pleased with the talent I have with this team and the effort the boys has shown all year long,” Jackson said. “If we play up to our ability in each and every game, then we should be a hard team to beat.”
