Tigers shutout Golden Eagles

GREENFIELD — Using a strong second half, the McClain Tigers got back on the winning side in the South Central Ohio League this season, as they rebounded from their season-opening three-goal loss with a 4-0 shutout win over the Golden Eagles of Madison-Plains, Thursday.
The victory at McClain Field evened the Tigers' overall record and their SCOL mark as well, as they move to 1-1 on the season.
"This was an improvement from our first match," MHS head coach Jon Chamblin said. "This time we looked for the open pass, which is something we didn't do so well the first time around.
"This game, we came together defensively."
MHS led 1-0 at the half and added three goals in the final 40 minutes as Coach Chamblin told his team at the half one goal wasn't enough.
McClain's first half goal came with 33:57 as Ben Chamblin scored from eight yards with the assist from Zack Harper, who was injured later in the first half with a lower leg injury at the 29:00 mark, as the sophomore left the field via medical personnel.

Then came the second half, and the Tigers scored three more times with back-to-back goals by Nic Rivas, who scored with 34:53 and 30:58 on the clock, putting MHS up 3-0. Rivas' goals were scored from 12 yards out across the keeper's face and off a rebound near the goal.
McClain's final goal came with 20:13 remaining in the match off the foot of Lincoln O'Connor.
Getting the shutout at goal for the Tigers was Tyler McGuire, who made two big saves at the goal around the 39-minute mark of the second half.
"Tyler is proving himself each time out," Chamblin said "The younger kids stepped up (Thursday), but losing Zach was a critical loss."
Before the match, the Tigers had a moment of silence for former head coach Shawn Jackson, who passed away in February. Jackson led the Tigers to three consecutive SCOL championships.
McClain will play their first non-league game of the season Saturday when they travel to face Waverly.
