Tigers rout Ironmen to open year

It is a new season for the McClain Tigers, and it showed Friday night as they easily defeated the Jackson Ironmen, 56-29 to open the 2012-13 season.
The road win by the visiting Tigers (1-0) began with a 14-7 first-frame lead, followed by a halftime advantage of 30-15 as MHS outscored their opponent 16-8 in the second eight-minute quarter.
In the third, the Tigers busted the score wide-open as they put 21 more points on their side of the scoreboard, while their defense held JHS to seven. In the fourth, MHS scored five points, while the home team added seven.
For MHS, they were led in scoring by sophomore Ryan Faulconer with a game-high 15 points. Faulconer made seven two-point baskets and one free throw.
Senior Brent Shannon totaled 14 points as he sank two 3-pointers, along with two field goals, and was 2-for-3 from the free-throw line.
Senior John Turner followed by eight points, junior Thomas Schrader totaled six and senior Tyler McGuire scored five points.
Also scoring for the Tigers was junior Evan Mustard, who ended with four. Junior Jeremiah Savage and senior Philip Thompson each scored two points.

MHS shot 8-for-12 from the free-throw line for 67 percent. JHS shot 3-for-4 from the line for 75 percent (all in the fourth quarter).
Leading JHS in scoring was Tyler Neal with 10 points, followed by Nick Bachtel with eight. Also scoring for JHS were Rusty Hatten with six, Evan Crabtree with three and Casey Walker with two.
Neal made two 3-pointers for JHS.
MHS totaled 19 turnovers and 13 fouls, while the Ironmen totaled 20 turnovers and 14 fouls.
MHS will play again on Saturday, Dec. 1 at the Zane Trace Tip Off Classic as they will face the North Adams Green Devils at 4:15 p.m. at ZTHS.
