Tigers place 15th at MT Invitational

EBER — The McClain varsity wrestling team competed at the annual Miami Trace Invitational, where the Tigers placed a respectable 12th of 18 teams this past Saturday at MTHS.
This tournament, as Miami Trace Superintendent Dan Roberts says, is made up of teams that will prepare everyone for league, sectional, district and state competition, and this year was no exception.
Thornville Sheridan won the tournament, followed by Miami Trace and Washington finishing second and third, respectively, as both are members of the South Central Ohio League.
The top eight finishers in each weight class scored placement points for their teams, and the top six finishers received individual medals.[[In-content Ad]]
McClain filled 12 of the 14 weight classes, as five individuals brought home medals.
The team pulled off a rare feat, as they were able to sweep all of their finals matches, going 5-0. Brandon Davis (220) led the team, finishing third.
Coty Barnhart (132), Roscoe East (170), Brendon Goble (195) and Dylan Trefz (285) all finished in fifth place. East made a rare accomplishment by becoming a 30-match winner for the first time in his career. He is currently 30-9.
Miami Trace also had a JV tournament that is held simultaneously with the varsity tournament, as the tournament is held in another building on the Miami Trace campus. MHS had two JV wrestlers compete, with Lucas Unger (182) going 2-2 and Damon Buckmaster (285) finishing 1-3.
The Tigers will return to Miami Trace again for their next action, in an SCOL league tri-match, along with East Clinton on Thursday. The JV and junior high teams will also be competing that night.
