Tigers lose SCOL matches to MP, CM

CLARKSVILLE — The McClain Tigers' attempt to win a South Central Ohio League dual match came up one point short.
The Tigers took the mats on Wednesday, Jan. 11 against Madison-Plains and the host Clinton-Massie Falcons, falling in both matches to their SCOL foes, losing 39-38 to MP and 46-33 to CM.
In the first round, McClain found themselves down 36-6 after the first seven weight classes. McClain had seven more weight classes to turn that around, and they almost gained a win but came up one point short at 39-38.
In the third round, the Tigers faced the Falcons. McClain had the Falcons on the ropes, as they had the lead 33-28 after the first 11 weight classes. However, CM scored 18 points in the final three matches with two pins and a forfeit, making the final score 46-33.
On the season, the Tigers finished their SCOL dual meets at 0-6. This concludes half of the league scoring, as the other half of the scoring will be determined at the SCOL tournament.
Overall for the season, McClain has a 11-10 record.
Individually, four Tigers went undefeated on the day, including Cody Black (152), Joe Unger (160), Roscoe East (170) and Gary Ryan (220). Unger now has over 20 wins this season at 21-5 overall.[[In-content Ad]]
Going 1-1 on the day were Kylee Stroud (106), Coty Barnhart (132), Ethan Paul (138), Jake Branham (195) and Brandon Davis (285).
There was one JV match contested, and that was between McClain and Clinton-Massie, as Caleb Savage (170) of McClain won by a first-period pin.
Up next for McClain is a tri-match against Cincinnati Summit Country Day and host Waynesville on Jan. 25. However, this is subject to change, as McClain has received a new wrestling mat, their first since 1997, and may possibly change this match to be a home match or may have different opponents for a home match.
