Tigers lose lead, game to Southeastern

CHILLICOTHE — Leading until the final eight minutes, the McClain Tigers were unable to hold on for a win in their regular-season finale, falling to the Southeastern Panthers, 48-46.
Saturday night was the second consecutive night the Tigers lost to not only a team nicknamed the Panthers, but lost by less than three points. On Friday, the Tigers lost to the Miami Trace Panthers by one point, and Saturday was the aforementioned loss to SEHS by two points.
The Tigers will play a team nicknamed the Panthers for a third consecutive time, as they will have a rematch on Tuesday, Feb. 21 when they face the MT Panthers in an opening-round Division II SE District sectional game at SEHS, starting at 8 p.m.
As for Saturday's game, MHS led 10-5 following the first quarter, but SE came back with a 17-point effort in the second quarter (holding MHS to 10 points). SE took a 22-20 lead at the half.
In the third, MHS outscored SE 12-7, regaining the lead at 32-29 after 24 minutes.
The fourth wasn't so kind to MHS, as they were outscored 19-1 for the loss.
Leading the Tigers was senior Trey Lytle with 17 points (including two 3-pointers), followed by freshman Ryan Faulconer with 11 points. Thomas Schrader (one 3-pointer) added seven points, and Evan Mustard scored five (one 3-pointer). Also scoring for MHS were Brent Shannon with four and Jeremiah Savage with two.

MHS was 12-of-22 from the free-throw line, and SE went 16-of-24.
Leading SE was Nick Kellough with a game-high 19 points. Kellough sank five 3-pointers.
The loss gives the Tigers an overall record of 5-15 for the regular season. SE improves to 12-8.
