Tigers gain SCOL win over Panthers

     GREENFIELD – The McClain Tigers chased the Miami Trace Panthers back to Fayette County Tuesday evening, as they easily defended their home court with a 63-43 South Central Ohio League win at McClain High School.

     The Tigers had balanced scoring for the entire game with three players finishing in double figures.

     MHS led 13-10 with one quarter in the books, and after an 18-point outburst in the second, went into the locker room leading by a score of 31-19. MHS led the third quarter 12-10, increasing the overall lead over MT to 43-29. The Tigers gained 20 points in the fourth while allowing 14.

     Tiger senior Caleb Gregory led MHS with 11 points, knocking down one 3-pointer. Logan Wise and L.T. Walters each scored 10 points in the league win. Wise led MHS with four assists and made two 3-point baskets.

     Nik Beatty and Lucas Polley, both seniors, each scored nine points. Beatty sank a 3-ball.

     Zach Matracia scored six points vs. the Panthers. Matracia, along with Polley, led MHS with seven rebounds each. MHS overall grabbed 30 boards, with MT gaining 26.

     Cameron Cooper and Zach Uhl finished with three points apiece, and Jared Loftis scored two points on free throws.

     MHS cut down their turnovers Tuesday night with seven, committing one in the first half. The Tigers forced MT into 16 turnovers. MHS committed six fouls in four quarters.

     Miami Trace was led by Isaiah Carson with 12 points.

     From the field, the Tigers shot 23 of 60 for 38 percent. MT shot 19 of 48 for 40 percent.

     The loss drops the Panthers to 3-7 overall, 3-3 in the SCOL. MHS improves to 5-4 overall, 3-2 in league play.

     MHS will host Adena Saturday night.
