Tigers gain 2nd win; out-battle Adena

GREENFIELD — After losing their last five games since their season-opening win, the McClain Tigers were back on the right side of the scoreboard on Thursday night. Scoring in double figures in each quarter, the Tigers defeated the Adena Warriors 54-31 at McClain High School.
The win lifts the Tigers to 2-5 overall and drops the Warriors of Adena to 0-7.
MHS won the first frame at 14-9 and took a halftime lead of 27-17.
The Tigers continued the trend in the second half, keeping Adena to single-digit scoring in all four quarters, while adding to their lead as they outscored the Warriors 27-14 in the final two quarters with a 14-point third frame and 13-point final quarter.
Freshman Ryan Faulconer led all scorers with a game-high 16 points. He sank six two-point baskets and four free throws.
Evan Mustard followed with 11 points, including one 3-pointer, and Brent Shannon scored 10 points, including two 3-pointers.
Also scoring for the Tigers were: Trey Lytle (3), Trevor Gossett (1), Thomas Schrader (7), John Turner (4) and Philip Thompson (2). Schrader also sank a 3-pointer.
MHS was 14-of-27 from the free-throw line (52 percent), while making a total of 18 field goals (including their four 3-pointers).
For AHS, Nick Hooks led with 12 points. Ryan Clarke followed with six points, and Austin Dennis had four.
MHS committed 18 fouls and had 15 turnovers. The Warriors finished with 18 turnovers and 24 fouls.
In the freshman game, MHS defeated AHS 55-18, and in JV play, the Tigers won 30-22 over the Warriors.
MHS will play again on Tuesday, Jan. 3 as they host the Washington Blue Lions in a South Central Ohio League matchup.
