GREENFIELD — A five-point second quarter by the McClain Tigers was enough for them to be unable to defend their home court against the Washington Blue Lions, falling 48-43 Tuesday in a South Central Ohio League showdown.
The Tigers (2-6) led after the first frame by an 11-9 score, but the Blue Lions answered with a 15-5 second frame to take a 25-16 lead at the half.
In the third, WCH was outscored 13-10 by the home Tiger squad, but an even 14-14 fourth quarter sealed the Tigers' fate once the final buzzer sounded.
Laike Wallace (WCH) led all scorers with a game-high 15 points, followed by Zack Blevins with 10 points and Conner Eckles with nine points, including Washington's lone 3-pointer. Derek Shaw followed with eight points. Also scoring for WCH were Tyler Slone (2) and Michael Penwell (4).[[In-content Ad]]The Tigers were led in scoring by John Turner with 11 points. Turner made two 3-pointers.
Brent Shannon (who made one 3-pointer) and Ryan Faulconer each scored nine points, and Evan Mustard followed with eight points for the Tigers.
Also scoring for MHS were Trey Lytle (2) and Thomas Schrader (4).
MHS was 10-of-21 from the free-throw line (48 percent), and the Blue Lions were 7-of-15 for 47 percent from the charity stripe.
In the freshman game, the Tigers won 33-19, and in JV play, MHS fell to WCH 37-13.
The Tigers will play again on Friday as they travel to take on the London Red Raiders. On Saturday, they will take to the road again for a non-league game against Zane Trace.
The win moves the Blue Lions to 3-5 overall and 2-2 in the SCOL. MHS falls to 2-6 overall and 0-3 in the SCOL.
