Tigers earn 5-4 record at Blanchester

The McClain varsity wrestling team competed in the two-day, 11-team Blanchester Duals on Dec. 16-17 as the Tigers wrestled a total of nine dual meets in two days.
The event left the MHS Tigers at 5-4 in two days and overall at 7-4 on the season.
Individually, leading the Tigers were Gary Ryan (195), Brandon Davis (220) and Lonnie Adkins (285) all going 7-2.
Isaac Savage (145, 152), Joe Unger (160) and Brendon Goble (170) went 6-3.
Kylee Stroud (106) was 5-4, and Roscoe East (182) was 4-1.
Cody Black (145, 152) was 4-5, Ethan Paul (138) was 2-7 and Caleb Savage (182) was 1-3. James Lain (145, 152) wrestled two JV matches, going 1-1.
In the first round, the Tigers squared off against the eventual champion, Campbell County, Ky.
The Camels proved to be too much for not only the Tigers, but every other team at the tourney, defeating MHS, 69-12.
The second round was a much closer match, but the Tigers were 0-2 after the first two rounds, with Batavia defeating McClain, 52-36.
Round three was the round that got the Tigers on the smiling side of the scoreboard, defeating Mariemont, 42-23.
The Tigers evened their tourney record at 2-2 in the fourth and final match on Friday night, doubling up the Panthers of Little Miami, 48-24.
McClain began the next day against the eventual tourney runner-up and host Blanchester Wildcats. Blanchester, filling their entire roster (including 10 freshmen), defeated the Tigers 65-18.
Up next was the Cincinnati McNicholas team. McClain fought several tough battles in this matchup but seemed to come out on top of all of the close matches, as McClain won 57-18.
Purcell Marian was the Tigers' next opponent, and knowing PMHS was tough, MHS fought hard and came out on top of a 36-32 score.
Roger Bacon only won one head-to-head matchup against the Tigers in the next round, but they were able to pick up some forfeit victories. They weren't enough as McClain handed them a 43-16 defeat. This victory secured a winning tourney, with a 5-3 record.
In the final round, the Tigers were pitted against Waynesville. This matchup came down to the wire, with Waynesville claiming the final matchup with a forfeit, allowing them to turn a three-point deficit into a three-point victory at 39-36.
Up next for the varsity, JV and junior high teams is an South Central Ohio League triangular match with Miami Trace and London at London High School on Thursday, Dec. 22 at 6 p.m.[[In-content Ad]]
