Tigers drop league game at Madison-Plains

MT. STERLING — Being held to seven points in the first quarter put the McClain Tigers in a tough spot early on Friday night at Madison-Plains High School. In fact, it ended up being too much to overcome, as the visiting Tiger team fell to the Golden Eagles 54-42 in South Central Ohio League play.
The loss sends MHS to an overall mark of 3-8 overall and an SCOL record of 1-4. MP moves to 6-5 overall and 4-2 in the league. The Tigers have their lone league win against London, and their losses have come to Hillsboro, Clinton-Massie, Washington and now MP.
McClain's aforementioned first quarter had them trailing by 12 points at 19-7. In the second, they scored 11 points, but MP won that quarter with 12 points, leading at halftime by a score of 31-18.
MHS won the third frame at 10-9, and each team scored 14 points in the final eight minutes. The Tigers outscored MP in the second half at 24-23.
The Tigers were led in scoring by freshman Ryan Faulconer with 17 points. Faulconer's points came from six two-point field goals and five free throws.
Thomas Schrader was the other Tiger to score in double figures with 10 points, including a 3-pointer.
Also scoring for MHS were Evan Mustard with six points, followed by Brent Shannon with five points (including one 3-pointer) and Evan Turner with four points.
Ryne Davis (MP) led all scorers with a game-high 23 points, including four 3-pointers.
Alex Williams scored 15 points, including seven two-point field goals and one free-throw conversion.
Also scoring for MP were Damon Glispie with seven points (one 3-pointer); Brooks Carter, six points (one 3-pointer); and Hunter Butin, three points.

The Tigers had 18 fouls and nine turnovers, while MP committed 14 fouls and 13 turnovers.
MHS will be back on the court on Saturday night when they host a non-league game with Unioto.
Non-league games so far this season for MHS have included: Jackson, Westfall, Lynchburg-Clay, Fairfield, Adena and Zane Trace. Wins have come against Adena and Jackson.
