Tigers defend home court against Astros

GREENFIELD — For the second time this season, the McClain Tigers earned a win, their first in the South Central Ohio League, as they defeated the East Clinton Astros, 49-38 Friday night at McClain Gym.
The Tigers now stand at 2-3 overall, with a league record of 1-2.
MHS led for most of the league contest as they outscored their SCOL foe 12-9 in the first frame and led at the half by a 22-11 score as they put up 10 more points on their side of the scoreboard, while their defense held EC to just two points in the second frame.
The Astros scored 12 points in the third, while MHS totaled seven, and in the final frame, MHS won the eight-minute span, 20-15.
Thomas Schrader, a junior, and sophomore Ryan Faulconer each led the Tigers with 15 points for the game-high. Faulconer sank two of the three MHS 3-pointers on the night.

Evan Mustard followed with eight points, and John Turner totaled five. Brent Shannon scored three points (off a 3-pointer), Philip Thompson totaled two points and Wyatt Jones rounded out the scoring with one point.
From the free-throw line, the Tigers were 8-of-15 for 53 percent with Faulconer making five.
Leading the Astros was Dalton Floyd with 14 points. Tyler Lewis totaled nine points for EC, while Hayden Knisley followed with seven. Levi Luttrell and Clyde Snow each scored for point in the Astros' loss.
Snow and Lewis each made a 3-pointer. From the free-throw line, EC was 6-of-14 (43 percent).
For the game, MHS had just four turnovers and 15 fouls, while EC had 11 turnovers and 20 fouls.
The Tigers play again on Saturday, Dec. 22 as they face Lynchburg-Clay in the 2012 SCOL vs. SHAC Challenge held at Hillsboro High School. The game is slated to start at 4 p.m.
In the freshman game, MHS topped EC, 41-27, and in JV play, the Tigers defeated, EC 40-35.
EC plays again on Jan. 4, 2013 as they travel to face Miami Trace.
